The dry heat hit Jo as she exited the plane.
It was four months since their last fervent rendezvous. Five years of passion. She was ready to settle here.
The warmth enhanced the fragrance of bougainvillea at the hotel and the lights created a magical feel. Perfect for a proposal!
Tanned and handsome, Flavio was leaning against the bar smiling broadly, chatting to someone concealed by the pillar.
Love and desire filled her soul. Excitedly, she ran towards him.
Panic on his face.
Confusion across hers.
A leggy blonde wrapped herself over her man.
Matching wedding bands glinted their taunts.

Oh disaster, disaster… but maybe it was all for the best when the smoke has settled… (and I wonder if there were even more women betrayed)

Oh, I have no doubt there were many more and she has had a lucky escape!

Ohhhhh, OUCH!!! That hurts big. The phrase in Spanish, “Amor de lejos es de pendejos” (love that is far away is of stupidity) couldn’t be any clearer. But, gee whiz … leading a girl on like that. 😦

I could say ‘That’s men for you!’ But I am sure there are equally as many women who behave badly! Thanks for reading and commenting.

I think she has already lost, but she could certainly cause him a few problems! Thanks for commenting.

I saw the whole tableau. Hope she made it back home to pick up the pieces.

Flávio has some ‘splaining to do. Did he lie or did she never care to ask? Age old question.
Good pace and a swift kick in the gut.

I think he was just a rat! One day she will realise she’s better off without him, but it was a lot of time wasted. Thanks for such a lovely comment.

Nicely built story, although we knew there would be no happy ending.
But wedding bands, bit of a deal breaker, I suspect!

Thank you. No happy ending… yet!

It must be devastating. All that time and hope invested, not to mention the distance travelled! Thanks for reading it.

Nicely paced, and the ‘bougainvillea’ reference was spot on. As an F1 fan, I had quite a different image in mind when Flavio emerged, but I got over it. Well done.

Thank you Sandra. If I think of F1 it has to be Jensen Button!

Oh, that’s painful. But in the end she’ll be much better off without that idiot.

She will, but it’s difficult to see it that way at the time!
