The Daybreak Dog Walk

PHOTO PROMPT © Peter Abbey

The early morning sun failed to warm her as she walked her border collie that morning.  It was bright, but the cold penetrated clothes and body, demonstrating nature’s supremacy.

Scrumpy padded ahead, nose infiltrating the smallest of gaps, sniffing to establish who had preceded him on this route.  Emerging from the tunnel, he bounded into the bushes.

His sudden yelp startled her.

She ran to where he had disappeared, catching on thorns in her frantic attempt to reach him.  He lay lifeless in the ditch and she bent to touch him.

From behind, a strong hand clamped over her mouth.

  1. Life Lessons of a Dog Lover says:

What a horror seeing your dog had been killed followed by the hand clamp. It left me cold and that’s a good thing for this type of story.
