PHOTO PROMPT © Al Forbes
Reception over, we drove away tins clattering behind, smiling guests waving their good wishes.
It had been perfect. All went exactly as planned. Everyone had admired my slub-silk oyster and pearl dress. The vintage car was immaculate, flowers beautiful, food delicious and the page-boys perfectly behaved. It couldn’t have gone more smoothly.
We walked up the path to our new home. He stopped at the front door and lifted me up to carry me over the threshold.
Oh God, I suppose he’ll expect to have sex tonight.
I shouldn’t be thinking like that on my wedding night…
It’ll be ok…

Oh dear… Maybe she never got “the talk”? Or maybe she has something to hide?

I wondered, too. Is she a man? Or maybe she has a tail!

So much for “trying a car before buying it…”

That’s how my mother answered me when I asked her if she’d had sex with Dad before marrying him…

Ha ha! I think she was more in love with the idea of getting married than she was with the man!

What?! I literally laughed out loud on this one. Thanks!

Thanks Kecia. There was nothing wrong with her other than she didn’t really fancy him! No hidden tail or other unexpected appendage! 🙂

I’m not sure it’s going to be okay if she’s thinking this on the wedding night! Great take.

Sounds like your heroine thought old fashioned weddings had a different ending.
Your story effectively threw a bucket of cold water on the reader. I liked it.

I’m sure many a bride pre-1970 had some of these same flitting thoughts and jitters. Since then, I’m not so sure. 😉 You did a good job of giving us some “once upon a time” feelings.

Thanks Christine. Not sure how long the marriage will last.

What did they used to say? ‘Lie back and think of England.’ She’ll learn to like it if she likes him.

Nicely built up to the crashing end. Not sure what was going on but as Tracey said it threw a bucket of water at us.

Thank you. 🙂 I think she just married the wrong man. She was more excited about the wedding than by him!

I think that happens more often then we would like in real life.

Well written Clare. Looks like the romance has ended before it’s truly begun. It seems a lot of marriages turn out this way. Couples are together for a long time before and it’s going stale but they’ve already committed to the marriage and can’t back out.

Not the best start in the world, is it? 😦 Still, I’m sure he’ll grow on her.

I’m not so sure he will. If the passion isn’t there to begin with, I don’t think it ever will be.

Jeez with everything going so smoothly you have the reader set up to think something is going to go wrong and then you spring THAT on us!
