My Grandfather’s Shop Was Too Tall for Myself

Grandpa was eccentric; absolutely lovely, but a tad odd!  His shop could be described similarly.  Full of peculiar items displayed unlike any other shop I have ever seen, things hung from the curiously lofty ceiling and the high shelves always reminded me of upside down tables.

“Grandpa, why is your shop so tall?” I once asked of him.  I never did get a reply that satisfied my childish logic.

How I longed to be tall enough to touch the things that hung taunting me from above.

When Grandpa died, his shop became a modern atrocity, but my memories remain forever.

    Dear Clare,

Oh those old shops that we remember. The streamline modern superstores cannot replace them. The shop in my story is loosely based on my uncle’s store of which my most vivid memory is his cigar smoke. 😉 Nicely done.

In my grandpa’s day, shops sold everything that the local community needed, [including free advise]. The high ceilings were a hint at grandness, and a great place for rarely needed items. [My free advise] keep up the good work, this is a great piece of writing.🙂 Mike. Retired shop keeper.
